Proud to be Part of Educating the Community

At Symons Group, we are thrilled to have been a part of the recent Roadsafe Taranaki event held in Hawera on April 13th and 14th. This event offered invaluable lessons and guidance to young and inexperienced drivers, equipping them with essential knowledge to stay safe on the roads.

Mother nature gave us a pretty horrible day on the Saturday but driving to the conditions is a huge part of being safe on the roads so maybe she did it on purpose! We’re a hardy bunch in Taranaki so we still saw over 80 people on the Saturday and a similar amount on the Sunday so it was a great turnout.

Road safety is a critical issue that affects us all, and local initiatives like Roadsafe Taranaki play a crucial role in addressing it. By providing educational resources, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions, the event empowered participants to make informed decisions behind the wheel, ultimately reducing the risk of accidents and promoting safer driving practices.

As a company deeply committed to the well-being of our community, partnering with Roadsafe Taranaki aligns perfectly with our values. We believe in supporting initiatives that make a tangible difference in people’s lives, and this event certainly does that by instilling confidence and competence in young drivers.

By collaborating with like-minded organizations and supporting initiatives that promote road safety, we aim to create a safer, more secure environment for everyone. Our small part in the day was giving people an opportunity to see things from a truck driver’s point of view. We spread a few things around one of our units and put people in the driver’s seat to see with their own eyes what we can, or perhaps more importantly, what we can’t see. We also shared why we sometimes need to take up two lanes to get round a corner and spent a bit of time talking about perception response times and just how long it takes to stop a 58t unit. One of the more pleasing parts of the day was seeing a the parents “lean in” to listen to what we had to say and we even got a few in the cab as well.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, volunteers, and participants of Roadsafe Taranaki for their unwavering commitment to making our roads safer. Together, we can continue to drive positive change and build a future where road safety is a top priority for all.

Symons Group is proud to be a part of Roadsafe Taranaki, and we look forward to future collaborations that will help create safer roads for generations to come.
