Loaded with Adventure: PIHMS Students Head for the Mountain

A group of 46 international students from across the globe recently swapped lecture theatres for walking boots as part of their induction programme with the Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS).

Leading the visit was Symons Group team member Des, who volunteered his time to take the students on a day trip to the iconic Dawson Falls Visitor Centre on the slopes of Taranaki Maunga.

The students, who have travelled from countries including Nepal, Vietnam and Sri Lanka to study in New Zealand, were given the opportunity to experience one of the region’s most recognisable natural attractions while learning more about the local environment, culture and community.

For many of the students, it was their first visit to Egmont National Park and their first close-up experience of New Zealand’s unique native bush. The trip provided a chance to connect with fellow students, explore the region beyond the classroom and gain an appreciation for the natural beauty that makes Taranaki such a special place to live and study.

Des said the day was all about helping students feel welcome and giving them a memorable introduction to their new home.

“These students have travelled a long way to be here. Getting them out into the region and showing them some of what makes Taranaki special is a great way to start their New Zealand journey.”

The visit reflects the strong community connections that exist between local organisations and educational institutions, helping international students feel part of the wider region from day one.

A big thank you to Des for representing Symons Group and helping create such a positive experience for the students. We are proud to support initiatives that showcase the best of Taranaki and help build connections across cultures and communities.
