At Symons Group, supporting our community and backing youth development is something we take pride in. We’re proud to be supporting Maia Read, a determined and talented 17-year-old from New Plymouth, as she represents New Zealand at the upcoming 2025 VICTOR Oceania Para Badminton Championships and the Australian Para Badminton International.
Maia’s journey into para badminton began only recently, after being introduced to the sport at the 2023 Halberg Games. Since then, she’s shown outstanding commitment and resilience—training consistently despite living with cerebral palsy—and earning her spot on the national para badminton squad.
Maia’s story is one of grit, self-belief, and hard work. With no formal performance funding available to New Zealand para badminton athletes, her ability to attend international competitions relies heavily on local fundraising and community support.
We’re proud to play a part in helping Maia reach her goals and inspire others. Her story reminds us all of the power of perseverance and the importance of backing young people chasing their dreams—on and off the court.
